Hi, my name is Ray Miller

Those of you from Sandpoint know me as  your Educator, Coach, City Councilman and your Mayor from 2002 – 2008.

Those of you not from Sandpoint will find me very knowledgable about local real estate & local politics.

I retired from active public service last year  – (thank you Gretchen  )  -  and I was undecided about how to put my years of knowledge of Sandpoint, Idaho to good use.

The question was:

What could I do that was both personally fulfilling and would give back to the community.

My answer is:

Bring citizens who are facing foreclosure together with home buyers (and investors)  to help keep our homes filled.

Idaho law:

Did you know that the City of Sandpoint cannot spend tax revenue it has not received?

Empty homes and people in foreclosure do not provide tax revenue.     Sandpoint cannot write a check on an empty bank account.

Without tax revenues our Schools, Police and Fire Departments (and our other programs) have to cut back necessary services.   Services that keep us all safe. I know because as Mayor I was put in the uncomfortable position of having to decide what services to cut when we had a tax shortfall.

And I saw firsthand the effect that empty houses and homeless families have on our city.

I pray that no one reading this has to deal with being homeless and destitute.

Now, my Goal in life now is to help keep the homes in our community filled with proud property owners who will improve the surrounding home values and provide the tax revenue we need to keep us safe.

And so that all our taxes won’t be increased.
