More Fiber in Our Home – Better Jobs
Karl Dye stopped by to visit today. He is the Executive Director for the Bonner County Economic Development Corporation. One of the many initiatives he is leading is fiber optic installation around the county that will bring a homeowner high speed internet, phone, and television. All for about a 100 bucks a month.
It will not stop Sandpoint foreclosures or go to all Sandpoint homes but it shows that business leaders are looking forward. Sandpoint foreclosures will not be the headline forever and as more entrepreneurs work from home fiber optics will connect more people to the marketplace.
During our conversation it was clear that investors are not just buying Sandpoint foreclosures. They are investing in green businesses that create jobs for people living in Sandpoint homes. One particular businessman has enough grant money to fund the beginning of a green project that has the potential to create many good paying jobs. He is already being courted by other states.
Sandpoint foreclosures continue to hurt people that we know. Continuing to attract employers who provide a decent salary and benefits is crucial to our economic comeback. Local government and community leaders must help new start-ups every way possible.
If you are one of the economic casualties of Sandpoint foreclosures and wind up a renter it would be nice to get a better job that will allow you to become a homeowner again. We should all ask ourselves what we can do to encourage and retain quality employers in Sandpoint?
