Optimism – A Slam Dunk

bapv (10)Many of us took a  break from Sandpoint foreclosures, TARP, HARM and HARP to stand at Sandpoint City Beach on Sunday and watch loved ones get baptized.  People burst from the water with expressions of joy I won’t forget.

This postcard view of loved ones and church family members gathered in the sand smiling was shared by passing boaters, bikers, and vacationers.  A reminder that we all share many goals and desires.

Under sunny skies by the lake people lingered and shared picnics.   They shared their stories too.   One couple described how they lost their home under the massive weight of Sandpoint foreclosures.   Long story short – he was ill and while he won his fight with cancer, he lost his home. He spoke with a voice full of optimism.

A younger couple on the next blanket shared that they were 90 days into foreclosure when their parents paid off their loan and became their new bank just when they were running short on funds and hope.  These two couples were connected by Sandpoint foreclosures … and more.

It also turned out that the young man’s mother was one of the nurses at the  hospital and treated the cancer patient.  It was also discovered that it was a friends’ brother that hired the younger man’s wife and provided them with a combined income that will service their mortgage debt.

The world of Sandpoint foreclosures slipped away on Sunday.  The faces of foreclosure that surrounded us Sunday held smiles.

Optimism, hope, and a sense of community don’t come with a monthly payment.   It’s free.
