Sources Tell Me Belwood’s May Be Closing
I have an outstanding source that says Ernie Belwood will officially announce the closing of Belwood’s Furniture store on Cedar street in downtown Sandpoint.
After nearly 35 years he and his employees will be missed.
Many have called Ernie “Mr. Sandpoint” and can always be certain of a friendly greeting and terminal cheerfulness.
It also means that the 28,000 sqft building will be on the market.
The structure itself was originally built as a hotel. The hotel featured a grocery store and some retail sales. In Sandpoint the biggest discussion is when will stimulus dollars impact the individual, where is the bottom of the Sandpoint real estate market, and what steps can I take to protect myself and my investments or increase my return on investment while there are so many affordable properties available.
The Sandpoint real estate market is not going to drastically improve until existing inventory is eliminated around the country. People usually have to sell where they live now before they can purchase in Sandpoint.
The stock market jumped up over 3 percent early in the month following increases in pending home sales and construction spending. However, it’s the high inventory of unsold homes and increasing foreclosures that are reducing demand and that makes it just that more difficult for prices to stabilize.
You can bet that across the country and in Sandpoint all eyes on the summer sales season and hoping for significant signs of improvement in the marketplace.
